Dear Mutzi launch: in conversation with Jordana Silverstein

Join us to celebrate the launch of Tess Scholfield-Peters Dear Mutzi.

Dear Mutzi tells the story of Harry Peters, Tess’s grandfather—known formerly as Hermann Ludwig Pollnow, and to his family as Mutzi. He was born in Berlin in 1920, and as a teenager fled Nazi Germany and landed in rural Australia. Harry’s parents, Max and Edith, stayed and perished in Nazi camps. Through the hybrid narrative non-fiction form, Scholfield-Peters investigates her family history from a third-generation perspective and seeks to share an ethical historical account of Harry’s life.

Jordana Silverstein will join Scholfield-Peters in conversation.

Free, but bookings are essential.

Unforgotten: The Shoah and Ancestors Lost
Australia has had the largest influx of Holocaust survivors post war outside of Israel. Those survivors are now few in number leaving second and third generations to piece together their family’s stories. Rachelle Unreich has captured her mother’s story in A Brilliant Life. Tess Schofield -Peters’s book, Dear Mutzi tells of her grandfather’s experience fleeing Nazi Germany and Louise Helfgott explores her Polish family’s Holocaust past. This trio of authors discuss why they have detailed these dark family stories and what they learned by doing so.
